Nayo Barbara Malcolm Watkins transitioned from the physical to the spiritual realm on January 20th 2008. Community artist, poet, educator, founder of the Mekye Center and leader of Alternate Roots, Mama Nayo’s love print is all over Durham North Carolina, the South and the world.

This video was created by Nia Wilson, poet, educator, cultural worker and director of SpiritHouse.

This rendition of “I’ll Fly Away” was voiced by Rachael Derello to honor and celebrate Mama Nayo’s journey home.
